Report on Church Picnic!

September 22nd, 2008 Posted in News

The summary below was written by Rev. Lanning and appeared in the bulletin Sunday Sep. 21 2008.

Many thanks to those members who staged our church picnic yesterday afternoon in Riverside Park. A goodly company assembled at 4 o’clock under picture-perfect weather conditions to play games (dragon’s tail, human croquet, and finally, a wheel barrow race) while Grillmeister Brian Anderson cooked our hot dogs and hamburger patties. After a decent interval of prayer, the company fell upon the food and went to work dressing and consuming the dogs and burgers, along with some outstanding salads, chips, and large drafts of an odd orange-colored fluid, followed by an array of desserts inlcuding one on Lena Meijer’s Dutch Apple Pies. Sheets with word were distributed, we sang some selections from The Book of Psalms for Singing, Rev. Lanning read from Psalm 104:16-24, and closed with prayer. More songs followed, including a version of Psalm 146 set to Converse, featuring a descant by the First RP Young Men’s Chorus. Clean-up ensued while the Young Men’s Chorus blessed us with an RP favorite, Psalm 98 set to the tune Desert. The company at last began to disperse as the sun was riding low in the western sky.
